Welcome to the Isle of Man
Castletown
Castletown was once the capital of the Isle of Man and is dominated by the magnificent fortress of Castle Rushen, home to the Kings and Lords of Mann for many centuries. It is one of Europe's most finely preserved medieval castles and offers the visitor an insight into what life was like within its vast walls.
The town has a busy harbour, an open air market, indoor swimming pool, bowling green and tennis courts. There are heritage sites such as the Nautical Museum and the Old Grammar School, plus two pedestrianised streets offering a wide range of specialist shops, a number of comfortable pubs and restaurants, while on the outskirts towards Scarlett, some splendid walks can be enjoyed.
Town walk leaflets are available free of charge to all visitors and can be found in the local library, tourist information centre and other shops in the town.
