Isle of Man Cruising
Few small islands can boast the maritime legacy of the Isle of Man. Steeped in nautical nostalgia this Isle in the Irish Sea has links with:-
- the famous sailing vessel, ‘The Star of India’ (now the major attraction of the San Diego Maritime Museum)
- the R.N.L.I. - formed on the Isle of Man by Sir William Hillary
- Birthplace of Captain Quilliam of HMS ‘Victory’
- direct connections with Captain Bligh, Fletcher Christian and Midshipman Heywood of ‘Mutiny on the Bounty’ fame.
and today, the Isle of Man provides a base for
- major ship management companies
- a vibrant Ships Register of 734 vessels totalling 5.25 million tons
- the Isle of Man Steam Packet Company founded in 1830 still operating daily passenger/freight Ferry services to the United Kingdom
- the Nautical Museum in Castletown and other Manx National Heritage sites featuring the Island’s maritime memorabilia and achievements
and last but not least
- the home of Sea Breezes magazine!
Come and share our maritime heritage.
