Sports Development Unit
Sports Opportunities for 5-15 Year Olds
The Sports Development Unit is committed to offering term time and holiday time sporting activities to all young people aged 5-15 years old. Working in partnership with the governing bodies of sport through local sports clubs, sports development endeavours to deliver a comprehensive and varied sports programme.
Holiday schemes enjoy a wide variety of sports, which include football, netball, badminton, athletics, table tennis, hockey, rugby, basketball, bowls, cycling, cricket and squash. A team of qualified coaches, strive to give all young people, irrespective of their ability, a positive experience through sport, in a safe, fun and productive environment, supervise all sessions.
Schemes will take place at the NSC, regional pitches and local schools. Sports Development continue to explore the opportunities to work in partnership with local sports clubs in the hope that even more sporting opportunities can be offered to all communities on the Island.
Sports Development also run term time after school activities. The sessions have an integral part to play in giving young people their first taste of organised sport. All after school activities look at the fundamentals of sport in a fun and effective manner. Further opportunities are offered through junior leagues/competitions and the Manx Youth Games.

The Sports Development Unit has identified key areas of work which will be a focus of our work in the future. Following the Commission of Inquiry into the Care of Young People on the Island, the Sports Development Unit will be working closely with the DHSS and care providers on the Island to increase sports provision.
Attention 12 - 15 Year Olds...
Another identified priority area for the Team to increase provision is in the 12 - 15 year old age group. The SDU will be seeking to increase numbers of paricipants in this age group significantly over the next 12 months. A specific Gym Session takes places over a 10 week period on Sundays. For further information on the next block of sessions, please contact Aaron Quinn on 688592.
