Southern Sports Audit
Southern Sports Audit
A southern sports audit was conducted by the Southern School Sports Co-ordinator in the first six months of being in post. The audit consisted of three main areas, as follows:
- Southern Schools Survey
- Southern Clubs Survey
- Children's Participation Survey
Each of these area's are outlined in further detail below.
Southern Schools Survey
The Southern Schools Survey was completed by all 8 primary schools in the southern region. It detailed questions such as:
- Facilities owned/utilised by the school
- Equipment owned/utilised by the school
- After School Sports Clubs facilitated by the school throughout the year
- Sports Tournaments/Competitions involved in throughout the year
- Area's of weaknesses in teaching PE
Southern Clubs Survey
A survey was devised and distrubuted to all sports clubs in the south of the Island. It detailed questions such as:
- Contact details of Club Chairman & Club Secretary
- Facilities owned by the Club
- Number of members in each age/gender bracket
- Whether or not they have a junior section. And if not, would they be willing to discuss the possible development of a junior section.
- Details of when and where the club trains
- Details of any leagues/competions the club is involved in
The survey's returned from Southern Clubs has enabled a Southern Club's Directory to be set up. This directory details clubs in the south which have junior sections already established. The aim of the Southern SSCo is to work with the other clubs over time and develop more junior sections for children of the south to participate in.
Children's Participation Survey
A participation survey was completed by all children in Year's 3, 4, 5 & 6 in Southern Schools in April 2005. The survey detailed questions such as:
- Do you enjoy exercising
- Which sports do you enjoy most
- Do you enjoy your PE lessons at school
- Do you attend any after school sports clubs (If yes, how often)
- Are you a member of a local sports club (outside of school)
- Have you ever attended any Manx Sport & Recreation Sports Activities during the holidays (If no, why not)
The results of this survey were analysed school by school in attempt to identify area's of weakness for the Southern SSCo to concentrate on. The survey will be completed by the same group of children (i.e. those in Year's 4, 5, 6 & 7) in May 2006 and again in May 2007 (i.e. Year's 5, 6, 7 & 8).
