Community Sports Development Officer

My Name is Emma Callow and I am the Community Sports Development Officer for the South of the Island. My position was created in February 2005 as part of a pilot scheme identified in the Isle of Man Sport & Recreation Strategy. The long-term aim is to have a network of co-ordinators throughout the Island.

The main aims of the role are as follows:

1. To increase sports opportunities for young people in the south through co-ordinated physical education, school and out-of-school activities that link with the local community.
2. Undertake an audit of current provision for sport accross the cluster of schools and local sports clubs in the region.
3. To support the training and continued professional development for PE Teachers and Primary School PE Co-ordinators.
4. To support the training of senior pupils and parent helpers as leaders, coaches and officials to support the programme and enhance their role within the sporting community.
5. To support and improve the range of intra and inter school sporting competition.
6. Strengthen the links between the school day and out-of-school hour provision to make connections between pupils participation in out-of-school hours sport and all aspects of their achievements at school.
