What is it?

Child Benefit (CHB) is a benefit paid to someone who is responsible for a child or young person living with them, or are contributing to the child's or young person's maintenance at a rate at least equal to the rate of CHB payable for that child or young person.

There are exceptions to the above and certain cases where there is no entitlement to Child Benefit - download the publications at the end of this section for more details.

How much could I get and how am I paid?

Click here for Rates. You can be paid weekly by order which you cash at a Post Office or you can have it paid directly into your Isle of Man based bank or building society account every 4 weeks.

How and when should I apply?

Use the claim form (CH2(IOM)) and return it to Child Benefit Unit, Markwell House, Market Street, Douglas, IM1 2RZ, along with the child's birth certificate.

You will need to apply as soon as possible after the birth of the child or after the date you take responsibility for the child or young person.
