CARER'S ALLOWANCE

What is it?

Carer's Allowance (CA) is payable to someone caring for a severely disabled person. The disabled person must receive Attendance Allowance, Constant Attendance Allowance; or the highest or middle rate care component of Disability Living Allowance.

Basic qualifying conditions

To qualify for CA you must -

You must be ordinarily resident in the Island and have been living in the Island for 26 weeks in the 12 months immediately before the claim

How much could I get and how am I paid?

Payment is made either by fortnightly cheque, which you can cash at a Post Office, or pay into a bank account or you can have it paid directly into your Isle of Man based bank or building society account every 2 weeks.

How and when should I apply?

Complete the CA claim form (DS 700) and return it to the Disability Benefits Unit, Ground Floor, Markwell House, Market Street, Douglas IM1 2RZ. You should claim CA as soon as you satisfy the qualifying conditions. You should also claim if the disabled person is awaiting the outcome of a claim to Attendance Allowance, Disability Living Allowance or Constant Attendance Allowance.
