The Advocates Disciplinary Tribunal

In April 2011, responsibility for providing Secretariat support to the Advocates Disciplinary Tribunal ("the Tribunal") was transferred from the Chief Secretary's Office to the Tribunals' Centralised Administration in the General Registry.

The Tribunal is established under Section 15A of the Advocates Act 1976 (as amended) which provides that the Tribunal shall consist of:

The Chairman of the Tribunal, appointed for a period of three years with effect from 12 April 2011, is Mr J D R Kewley. The persons nominated by the Council are Mr J J Callin and Mr P R Wood, and the persons nominated by OFT are Mr R J Birchall and Mrs J Purvis.

In order to be quorate, the Tribunal must consist of the Chairman and at least one of the persons nominated by the Council and one of the persons nominated by the OFT.

Guidance notes in relation to making an application to the Tribunal are available below, as are a copy of the Advocates Disciplinary Rules 2009. A copy of the Advocates Act 1976, if required, or indeed any other legislation may be obtained from the Tynwald Library, contact details are available on the Tynwald website at www.tynwald.org.im
