Employment Tribunal decisions

All decisions issued by the Employment Tribunal, since 1 Nov 2006, are listed below. Decisions issued before the Tribunals’ Centralised Administration was formed on the 1 Nov 2006 are not available on the website but can be viewed in the Register which is available for any person to inspect, during normal Office hours, at the Offices of the Manx Industrial Relations Service, 5th Floor, Victory House, Prospect Hill, Douglas, Isle of Man, IM1 1EQ.

The decisions are listed in date order, thereby meaning the oldest decision appears at the top of the list and any new decision added to this page is automatically displayed at the bottom of the list. We aim to publish decisions of the Employment Tribunal on this website within 3 working days of the decision being issued.

The decisions all have a standard naming convention applied. First, the case number is indicated and then details of the names of the parties involved are shown. The only difference you will see to the naming convention relates to the case number. Prior to 2008, the case number assigned to an application made to the Employment Tribunal was simply the next sequential number (1008, 1009, 1010, and so on), irrespective of the year in which the application was received. From January 2008, applications received were assigned a case number made up of the last two digits of the year in which the application was received and then the sequential number starting from 1 (for example, in 2008 the first application was numbered 08/1, the second 08/2, and so on). Case numbers changed in 2008 purely to assist the administration as it enabled staff to quickly identify how many applications had been received in any particular year, for any period, etc.

How to search the information below

In order to read a decision, simply click on the names of the parties and the document should open. Having opened and viewed a particular decision, you should use the ‘Back’ function to navigate back to the list of all decisions. Please note that if you use the X (close) function when the document is open you will close the entire webpage. If you experience any problems in trying to view any of the decisions, please contact the Tribunals Office on 01624 685941.

If you are looking for a particular decision, you can search this page by holding down the ’Ctrl’ and ‘F’ keys on your keyboard to provide you with search functionality - you can then enter either the case number or the name(s) of either/both the parties (tip – the less search criteria you enter is the more matching results you will get returned). Please note that a search on this page can only search the wording contained in the naming convention applied to and displayed against the decision – it cannot look at the contents of the individual decisions.

However, once you select and view a decision you can then carry out a search within the document by again holding down the ’Ctrl’ and ‘F’ keys on your keyboard and, once the search field appears, by entering the relevant text that you wish to look for within the document – this may assist you if you simply want to see if a decision has any relevance to the situation you find yourself in, for example you may wish to quickly search the decision to see if it contains the words ‘unfair dismissal’. Although we hope that you find this useful, please note that any person searching the decisions for relevant cases should satisfy themselves as to the content and relevance of any decision published.
