ISLE OF MAN TREASURY COINS ARCHIVE
Chinchilla Cat Crown 2009
Date of Issue: SOLD OUT
Chinchilla Cat Crown

Since the release of the first coin in 1988, the Isle of Man Manx Cat series has become one of the most popular gold bullion series in the world. Each coin has depicted a cat or kitten and 2009 sees the issue of another wonderful coin, this time depicting an image of a Chinchilla cat and her kitten.

Chinchillas are a variety of the Persian cat and they are classed as a "silver" cat. The Chinchilla is a longhaired cat, distinguished by large green or blue-green eyes. The Chinchilla’s coat is a silky texture, and the coat requires daily grooming to keep the cat comfortable. They moult heavily twice a year and shed some hair all year round. The kittens are born almost black with heavy tabby markings, which disappear as they get older, making way for the pure white coat colour. Chinchillas are not as stout in body type as other longhaired cats and they have quite melodious voices and an aptitude for adjusting to any new environment.

They are, perhaps, most famous as Blofeld’s cat in the Bond films!
