Isle of Man Post is honoured to commemorate the 60th Anniversary of the Dambuster Raids. In doing so we also highlight the achievements and sacrifices made by members of 617 Squadron including Manxman, F/Sgt Albert Arthur Holt who lost his life while flying with F/Lt Bill Reid VC over enemy occupied territory during World War II. As well as members of 617 Squadron who took part in the Raids a large contribution to the overall success of the project lies with the designer of the Avro Lancaster, Roy Chadwick. We are indebted to his daughter, Mrs Margaret Dove, who lives on the Island for access to her father’s personal archive and drawings. Barnes Wallis wrote the following to Roy Chadwick on the 25th May 1943;” May I offer you my very deep thanks for the existence of your wonderful Lancaster, for it was the only aircraft in the world capable of doing the job.”
