For the fortieth anniversary of the Apollo landings we have chosen to celebrate aspects of each of the missions that landed on the Moon and to showcase the people and the technology behind these achievements

We have also selected images not normally seen or immediately associated with the landings: extraordinary images to mark extraordinary events

The artwork for both set and miniature sheet is that of former USA astronaut Alan Bean and our Presentation Pack and First Day Cover each includes Alan’s own comments corresponding with the selected images – a remarkable insight into these momentous adventures

The issue has been selected as our contribution to the Europa stamp project.
