Your Information - Your Responsibility

As the threat to the security of personal information increases, the Office of the Data Protection Supervisor has published a booklet to advise individuals on methods they can use to reduce this risk.

It covers topics including reducing unwanted marketing, identity theft and a suggested list of those people you should not forget to advise when you move house.

The booklet has also been divided into topics for ease of reference, and is available below in both Word and PDF format.

This booklet may also be obtained in hard copy by emailing the Office typing 'Booklet Request' in the subject line and supplying your name and postal address in the message. Please note that this information will only be used to send this booklet to you.

Requests for disclosure of bank interest to HM Revenue & Customs

This Office is aware that residents may be receiving such requests.

If you consider that such a request has been sent to you in error you should in the first instance write to your bank and/or HM Revenue and Customs explaining your circumstances.

As the Orders were served on the Banks in the UK and the disclosures made in the UK, it is for the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) in the UK to investigate. The ICO is aware of the issue and this Office, along with our counterparts in the Channel Islands, is attempting to gather as much information as possible.

To enable us to collate as much information as possible we would be grateful if you could complete the form available below and return it to us together with a copy of the letter(s) you have received. The information gathered by this Office in this way will only be used for investigation into these complaints. We intend to provide this collated information to the ICO, but if you wish to simply advise us that you have received a letter in error you may do so by indicating on the form that you do not wish us to forward your complaint by ticking the box on the form.

You may send these documents to this Office

via email to enquiries@odps.gov.im quoting "HMRC" in the subject line, or alternatively

by post to ODPS, PO BOX 69, Douglas, Isle of Man, IM99 1EQ
