Individual's rights
The sixth data protection principle requires data controllers to process personal data in accordance with individuals' rights. The Act sets out these rights in Part 2 of the Act and a brief guide to these rights can be downloaded here.

Right of access to personal information
The most frequently exercised right is that of access to personal information and such requests made by individuals are referred to as "subject access requests".
Advice and guidance is provided below regarding the obligation on a data controller to comply with this right and how to deal with requests. Information on the other rights can be found at the end of this page.
