Consultation launched on the future of state pensions and benefits

Monday, 23 March 2015

Treasury has today published a consultation document on recommendations to reform the Island’s National Insurance and Social Security systems.

The proposals come from a major review of the systems carried out by consultants Ci65 and were first published in November last year.

Entitled ‘Proposed Changes to the Manx Social Security and National Insurance Systems’, the consultation document is intended to stimulate debate on key aspects of the state pension, National Insurance, workplace pensions and welfare reform.

Stressing the importance of the consultation, Treasury Minister Eddie Teare MHK commented:

‘The National Insurance and Social Security systems touch all aspects of Island life and the reforms envisaged would be wide ranging in their effect. Through this consultation we are seeking views and contributions from all interested parties to help inform decisions on the way forward.

‘Following the consultation we will develop more detailed proposals about how the systems should look in the future. In the meantime I look forward to receiving submissions on this most important topic.’

Anyone wishing to submit their views on the consultation is invited to do so by May 15, 2015. Responses should be sent to:
