Admission is free of charge.An exhibition showcasing the work of Robert Evans Creer, a Manx artist working in the late 19th Century. His watercolours show predominantly rural scenes and document a way of life which was rapidly changing. |
| Saturday 1st November 2008 to Friday 3rd April 2009 | Story of Mann Seasonal Sites Closed for Winter 2008Castle Rushen, The Nautical Museum, The Old Grammar School, The Old House of Keys, Rushen Abbey, Peel Castle, The Great Laxey Wheel and Mines Trail, The National Folk Museum at Cregneash , and The Grove are now closed for Winter 2008. They will re-open on Saturday 4th April 2009. The Manx Museum in Douglas, The House of Manannan in Peel, Niarbyl Cafe and Visitor Centre and The Sound Visitor Centre and Restaurant remain open all year round (Manx Museum closed on Sundays). |

A public lecture by Phil Reed OBE who is the leading authority on Sir Winston Churchill, on the history of the Cabinet War Rooms and Winston Churchill in the Second World War. Mr Reed, Director of the award-winning Churchill Museum and Cabinet War Rooms as well as the Executive Director of the Churchill Centre, has been the driving force behind the restoration of previously closed areas of the War Rooms, including Churchill’s underground domestic suite. Mr Reed who is also a distinguished author and academic, will discuss within the lecture the creation of the Churchill Museum at the Cabinet War Rooms together with the museum’s origins, content, design and strategy. A public lecture presented by Professor Ronald Hutton, a leading authority on the history of the British Isles in the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries and ancient and medieval paganism. The Druids have long had a particular association with the Isle of Man, representing an unusually intense local manifestation of the appeal that they had for the British in general between 1750 and 1900. In this lecture, Professor Hutton will answer the following questions: What can we know about the ancient Druids? Why did they become so important to the Georgian and Victorian British? |

In 1900 Archibald Knox was at the pinnacle of his career as a designer for Liberty & Co. (London and Paris), while living an almost monastic life in the isolated village of Sulby in the Isle of Man. Liam O’Neill, Chairman of Archibald Knox Society, will present an illustrated talk on the life and work of the Manx artist, school master and liberty designer, who’s unique style made him one of the foremost artist/designers of the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. |

Manx Museum, Art Gallery.
Open Monday to Saturday from 10am to 5pm. FREE ADMISSION. An exhibition showcasing the work of art students who graduated from the Isle of Man College in 2005. Many have developed their talents at art colleges and universities in the UK and this exhibition will highlight their latest work in fine art, animation, graphic design, fashion and textiles. |

House of Manannan, Peel. Workshops commence at 10.30am until 12pm and 1.30pm until 3pm daily. £2.80 per child.
A fun and creative workshop for children aged 5 to 15 years to learn the skills of Victorian paper collage in making picture frames and bookmarks. Workshops last 1 ½ hours and parents are asked to collect their children after the workshop. Spaces can be reserved by telephoning 648000. |
