Recent Work - Obbraghyn Noa

The Manx National Trust (part of Manx National Heritage) was created by an Act of Tynwald in 1951 largely as a result of the initiative of Deemster Sir Percy Cowley (1886-1958). The Trust quickly took control of an area of Spanish Head which had been acquired in the belief that a Manx National Trust would be established. Over the years further holdings of land have been acquired to make possible the preservation of places of natural beauty as part of our national heritage. A memorial to Deemster Cowley stands above the Sound.

Manx National Heritage acquired the land on which the new Centre stands in 1999. Much work has been done to protect its beauty and to make it accessible to the public. The previous café has been demolished and replaced by the new building, specially designed to fit into the landscape. Archaeological work on the Parade has investigated the ramparts and re-landscaping aims to make up for the damage caused by the old café and to protect the archaeology and the wildlife of the area from further damage.

Please see the Visitor Information page for details of opening hours.
