Lower Silverdale Presented to the Manx National Trust in 1966, Lower Silverdale Glen offers the visitor a pleasant woodland walk from the medieval Monks Bridge in Ballasalla, which links to Rushen Abbey, to the old Creg Mill, now a craft centre. This characteristic Manx glen is a legacy of Victorian tree and pleasure garden plantings, but it retains wild woodland ground flora, and is especially pretty in spring with Bluebells, Wood Sorrel and Primroses. An old dam once served an eighteenth century mill which processed flax, and later ground ochre and umber for paint and polishing powders.
