Manx Mines Rocks and Minerals

The Manx Mines, Rocks and Minerals pack explores these industries which have occupied an important niche in the economy of the Island. The research covers the history of mining and quarrying and identifies the wide range of processes involved.

Teacher’s resource book;

Part one of the teacher’s resource book entitled, The Manx Rocks and Minerals describes the variety of rocks and unique geology of the Isle of Man.

Part two,The Story of Mining, investigates the historic use of the Island’s natural resources from the Stone Age through the Medieval period.

Part Three, Quarrying details extraction methods through history, from megalithic burials to 17th century quarrying. This section also introduces modern techniques such as aggregate processing.

Part four contains sources and suggestion for further teaching activities.
