IOM Railway Crest

Manx Museum Accession Number - 1993-0178

This fine crest once adorned an Isle of Man Railways passenger carriage. Railways came to the Isle of Man in 1873, and the first line to be opened ran from Douglas to Peel. Later a southern line to Castletown & Port Erin was opened, and a branch line connected with the mining village of Foxdale. Much of the railway was lost in the 1950s but the southern line survives along with its historic engines, one of which, Fenella, features on this crest. At 15 and a half miles it is now the longest narrow gauge steam line in Britain.

This crest is on display in the Manx Museum, Douglas.
