Trophy (Mike Hailwood)

Trophy (Mike Hailwood)

Manx Museum Accession Number - 22220

‘Mike the Bike’ Hailwood is arguably the most famous TT competitor ever. He was a natural rider and coupled this with a steely determination to win One of his most remarkable TT wins came in 1965 when, having crashed his bike, Hailwood dusted himself off, remounted the damaged machine and went on to take the race. After an 11 year ‘retirement’ in which he concentrated on racing cars, Hailwood staged a comeback in 1978 and 1979, claiming his final TT win in the 1979 Senior TT. This miniature trophy, a replica of the original 1907 Tourist Trophy, was one of many collected by Hailwood in the course of his career. It was awarded for the fastest lap in the 1966 Senior Race, at a speed of 107.07 mph, a race which Hailwood also won outright.
