Patchwork Quilt
![]() | Manx Museum Accession Number - 1954-5279 |
The patchwork quilt exemplifies the combination of folk art and thrift (or ‘make do and mend’). Using scraps from old clothes or even earlier quilts which had worn out, the Manxwoman sitting by the fire in the evening would work them into intricate and attractive patterns. That which is most typical of the Isle of Man is log cabin, or roof pattern. This example also features the three legs device, neatly worked in to the design.
