T.E.Brown Window

TE Brown Window

Thomas Edward Brown was born in Douglas in 1830 and attended King William’s College. He won a fellowship at Oriel College Oxford, before returning to teach at King William’s College and later at Clifton College, Bristol. Brown had a great love of his native island and its people, and he expressed this through his poetry. His verse is unusual in that much of it is written in the Anglo-Manx dialect. This memorial window was commissioned after his death by a committee of subscribers, and was designed by the Manx artist William Hoggatt. It includes representations of many of the characters featured in Brown’s work.

This window is on display in the Manx Museum, Douglas.
