Knox Silver Tankard

Archibald Knox was born in 1864, the son of an engineer. He had initially trained as a draughtsman, but instead opted for a career as an art teacher. Knox was infused and enthralled by the Celtic heritage of the Isle of Man, and spent long hours walking the countryside alone with his thoughts. Although he was accomplished in many fields, his association with Liberty & Co, for whom he supplied metalwork designs, produced some of his strongest work. This exquisite silver tankard, designed by Knox and hallmarked 1902, was purchased by the Friends of Manx National Heritage.
This tankard is on display in the Manx Museum, Douglas.
