Artists, Writers & Poets
As a place of great natural beauty the Isle of Man has long proved attractive to visiting artists. However, it has also produced its own crop of outstandingly talented writers, painters & sculptors.

In the field of decorative arts, Archibald Knox is internationally recognised. The former Douglas art teacher is chiefly acclaimed for his metalwork designs for the firm of Liberty & Co, but was also an accomplished watercolour painter.
The architect Baillie Scott was part of the same Arts & Crafts movement, and many examples of his work survive on the Isle of Man. In the field of literature, another Manx schoolmaster, T.E.Brown, expressed his love of his native island through his dialect verse, whilst the novels of Hall Caine brought the Isle of Man to the attention of the world. Today a new generation of Manx artists & sculptors are active - perhaps best known of these is Bryan Kneale.
