Hump-backed scraper
Hump-backed scraper excavated from a neolithic house site at Ronaldsway, Malew

Dimensions: 6cm x 4cm x 4cm

Manx Museum Accession Number - 1965-0001/045

Flint scrapers with a distinctive hump-backed profile are one part of the toolkit of the Ronaldsway Farmers, a Neolithic culture in the Isle of Man. Scrapers were used in the preparation of animal skins, to remove meat and muscle residue from the skin, giving a clean inside surface to the hide.

This scraper is on display at the Manx Museum.
