Climate change is firmly on the political agenda as the ratification of the Kyoto Protoco has intensified the international focus on this issue. We recognise that our activities impact upon the environment both globally and locally. We have reduced our atmospheric emissions by diversifying the fuel types we use and by using more efficient combined- cycle gas turbine as our primary generating plant.

The carbon dioxide (Co2) intensity of our electricity generation per unit (kWh) since 1990 has reduced by 40% resulting in a carbon intensity of our electrical supply of 0.43kg of CO2/kWh compared with 0.52kg of CO2 /kWh from the UK national grid

Environmental impacts and aspects have been documented and managed in accordance with the Authority's environmental policy which was reviewed in 2008 as part of the corporate governance process. In particular this has included a corporate review of flood risk assessments and waste management arrangements.
