The Regeneration of Upper Pulrose Continues with Completion of New Apartments in Hazel Close

The first 22 new dwellings of Douglas Borough Council’s Upper Pulrose public sector housing scheme at Hazel Close have been built and handed over. Another 22 units are also in the final stages of construction and expected to be complete by July. Representing an investment in the region of £6 million, the project is being realised through a partnership between the Council and the Department of Social Care. When completed there will be a mixture of apartments and houses and disabled facilities. The dwellings are grouped around a central landscaped courtyard.

There are two future phases to the Upper Pulrose redevelopment which will, in total, create 124 homes, including a sheltered housing scheme and a large area of public open space. The whole project is due for completion early in 2015.

Minister for Social Care Hon Chris Robertshaw MHK said:

“This development illustrates Government’s continued commitment to providing affordable housing that meets local needs. I have visited the latest phase of the redevelopment of Pulrose at Hazel Close and was very pleased with what I found. The layout is innovative and the finishes good. Considerable effort has gone into making sure that the acoustic and thermal values of the new apartments are of the highest standard. This will help residents to minimise both their heating bills and noise pollution. I hope that residents are very happy with their new homes.”
