Isle of Man Electoral Register Registration - the edited version, its use, and how to opt out

The Electoral Registration Unit is in the process of gathering information for the register of electors and forms have been sent to all households for completion.

There are two versions of the register of electors - a full version, which lists all persons entitled to vote, and an edited version, which is a commercially available register available for purchase and use by any person, for any purpose. The edited register is regularly used for direct marketing purposes.

The Supervisor is often contacted by people who have received direct marketing and are concerned where their personal details were obtained from. It is frequently the case that they have not exercised the option to be excluded from the edited register.

Individuals can opt out from inclusion on the edited register by putting an X in the column "Exclude from edited register 'X'" on the registration form issued by the Electoral Registration Unit.

To assist individuals, the Supervisor has issued guidance, "ELECTORAL REGISTERS - Your right to opt out from inclusion on the edited register", which is available for downloading below or by following this link.
