Are you complying with the Data Protection Act?

To highlight the importance of several compliance requirements of the Act, the Supervisor brings the following three news items recently released by the UK Information Commissioner to the attention of data controllers.

These are:

  1. Appropriate security measures -Small businesses warned about the importance of encryption
  2. The offence of unlawfully obtaining personal data - Bank employee prosecuted for illegally accessing customer’s account
  3. Notification of the processing of personal data - A payday loan company, and its director, have been prosecuted for failing to have a register entry

The Supervisor has produced guidance on compliance with the Isle of Man Data Protection Act and this can be found in the relevant sections of the website, or in the document library.
