European Parliament launches Markets in Financial Instruments Directive consultation

The Financial Supervision Commission (“the Commission”) would like to draw to the attention of industry professional bodies, the consultation recently launched by German MEP, Markus Ferber. Herr Ferber has been appointed by the European Parliament as the rapporteur for the review of MiFID. The consultation is in the form of a questionnaire and can be found here.

Herr Ferber will have responsibility for writing a report based on the final MiFID II proposals made by the European Commission, on behalf of the European Parliament’s Economic and Monetary Affairs Committee (“ECON”). The report will form the basis for other ECON members to put forward amendments to the European Commission’s proposals. The European Commission is expected to make its final proposals on MiFID II during July 2012, with the new rules coming into force by 2013.
