2nd July 2009 Students show off art and photographyAn explosion of colour greeted the visitors to Ballakermeen High School’s exhibition of A level art and photography on Wednesday evening. An array of subjects as diverse as portraits, fruit, animals, structures and music had been portrayed in a variety of media, including oils, acrylics, screen prints, textiles, digital and film photography by the 19 students whose work was displayed. During the evening, the Archibald Knox Society presented two prizes of £50, sponsored by Callow’s Yard, in the presence of Education Minister Anne Craine MHK. They went to Katherine Cain for photography and to Devaki Thavarajah for art. Dylis Watson, chairman of the judging panel, spoke briefly before introducing Roy Tilleard, of Callow's Yard, who presented the prizes. She said judges had thoroughly enjoyed viewing the exceptional talent on display and said the standard was so high they had had a difficult job choosing the winning work as, in their opinion, all the students were worthy winners. She concluded by thanking Viv Christian, head of the arts faculty, for her hard work in both teaching the students and for putting the exhibition together. |
