Department of Health and Social Security receives £70000 from Henry Bloom Noble Healthcare Trust

Steve Rodan MHK, Minister for Health and Social Security, received a cheque today (18 October 2004) from the Henry Bloom Noble Healthcare Trust for £70,000.

This builds on their history of supporting Noble’s Hospital, which includes a donation of £100,000 last year.

The Minister said “ We would like to express our gratitude to the Henry Bloom Noble Healthcare Trust for their generous and much appreciated donations which will add to the quality of care we can offer to our community on the Isle of Man. Although the Isle of Man Government has invested substantial sums of money to provide Noble’s Hospital, Braddan, there is still a continuing need to replace and update the Hospital’s various equipment.”

One of the items purchased with the latest donation is a Transeosophageal echo probe which is used to obtain excellent views of the heart unobstructed by lung or chest wall. The technique known as transoesophageal echocardiography is of benefit when views cannot be obtained with conventional echocardiography, or more detail of a structure is required. It is the procedure of choice for detection of aortic disease (one of the large vessels coming out from the heart).

Bob Dowty, Chairman of the Henry Bloom Noble Healthcare Trust said, “The Trustees are delighted to make this donation to enable the Hospital to purchase equipment additional to that provided by the Hospital Budget. We believe that these items are worthy of charitable support and will improve the standard of Healthcare for all of us, just as those people who have donated so generously over the years would have wished."

The Henry Bloom Noble Healthcare Trust is one of the oldest charities on the Island; the Trust took on a new name and a new constitution in 2003. Originally set up by H B Noble to provide hospital treatment for the “sick poor” of the Island it has undergone considerable change in its 95 year history. Many persons, grateful for the care they or their relatives have received at the hospital, have added to the fund over the years. These funds are invested using the best professional advice and the income is used to provide equipment and support to the hospital and other non-profit making healthcare establishments. - End –
