General Insurance Intermediaries
In order to ensure the highest standards of conduct within the sector, all independent insurance intermediaries dealing in general (as opposed to life) insurance business are required to register with the Insurance and Pensions Authority and are regulated by the Authority under the provisions of the Insurance Intermediaries (General Business) Act 1996, and Regulations 1999. (Note - the regulation of intermediaries dealing in life assurance business is carried out by the Financial Supervision Commission, under the Investment Business Act).
