Aircraft Registration
The Isle of Man has many years experience of financing, insuring and providing corporate structures for aircraft registered in other countries and on 1 May 2007 established its own aircraft register, operated by the Isle of Man Aircraft Registry
The establishment of the Isle of Man Aircraft Registry for private and corporate aircraft has enabled the Island to become a one-stop shop for worldwide aviation business.
In addition to registration, the Island’s financial institutions are conducting mortgages, lawyers are registering mortgages for foreign banks and corporate service providers are forming new Isle of Man structures to own and manage locally registered aircraft most of which are benefiting from the Island’s clear and simple tax regime.
The Isle of Man has an international reputation as a tax-efficient, but responsible and co-operative jurisdiction and appears on the OECD ‘white list’ of countries complying with the global standard for tax co-operation and exchange of information.
The M Prefix
The Isle of Man’s aircraft registration prefix nationality mark is ‘M’ followed by a hyphen and four characters. The combination of M and four characters has already produced some interesting registrations such as M-AGIC, M-YJET, M-IDAS and M-ONEY! Another innovation by the Registry is to allow owners to transfer their personal registration to their next aircraft.
