MANX MAGIC - ISLE OF MAN LAUNCHES NEW RANGE OF HARRY POTTER COINS - Department of the Treasury News Release

THE Isle of Man Treasury is pleased to announce the launch today (Thursday October 10, 2002) of a new range of official legal tender coins, celebrating the best-selling book Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets by J.K.Rowling.

The new range of coins, produced by Pobjoy Mint Ltd, follows on from last year's successful launch based on Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone.

The Manx coins are expected to be popular with Harry Potter fans and coin collectors worldwide. On the Island, they will be available from the Treasury from October 15.

The coin designs depict six favourite scenes from the second chapter of Harry's adventures, chronicling his growth as a student of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Coin designs include: Dobby visits Harry in the Hospital Wing; Tom Riddle steals Harry's Wand; Harry, Hermione and Ron mix Polyjuice Potion; Harry Retrieves the Gryffindor Sword; Harry and Ron return to The Burrow; and Harry and Ron meet Aragog in the Forbidden Forest.

The launch is timed to coincide with the forthcoming release of the Warner Bros Pictures film of Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets.

The coins are available in three formats: cupro nickel crown size, available in a specially designed Harry Potter presentation pack at £12.95, proof sterling silver crown size and proof 1/25 oz 999.9 gold which are available in high quality Harry Potter branded presentation boxes.
