Welcome To The Road Safety Home Page

What We Do

The Road Safety Unit aims to help reduce the number and severity of accidents through education, training and publicity and includes all types of road users from young to old; pedestrians; drivers; cyclists and horse riders.

Road Safety publicity is aimed at a wide target audience and is featured in a variety of ways like posters and billboards, local newspapers, magazines and radio. The Unit's staff attend events around the Island where the public are more than welcome to discuss road safety issues or concerns.

Road Safety Campaigns are run in conjunction with National and International awareness initiatives and the local Police.

The education service includes programs for primary school aged children such as Traffic Education, the Junior Road Safety Officer's Scheme and the Cycling Proficiency scheme. School Bus travel sessions and pre-driver training education is undertaken for secondary school children.

Talks and demonstrations are available to clubs and societies on road safety issues and the training for the correct fitting of child restraints in vehicles is also available to groups or individuals.

If you are planning a sponsored walk or event on a highway the Road Safety Unit can lend fluorescent/reflective waistcoats and give advice.

The Road Safety Unit also operates the School Crossing Patrol Service which recruits, trains and supervises School Crossing Patrols.

If you would like further information on any of these services please contact the Road Safety Unit on 01624 686671 or link to the following sites.
