General Highway Maintenance

The Department operates a priority rating system on defects and those likely to cause an accident, damage or an emergency are give a high priority. Highway Inspectors look after general highway maintenance and may be contacted on 686665.

Traffic Lights

The Highways Operations Section is also responsible for maintaining traffic lights. If you wish to report a traffic light failure contact 686665.

Street Cleaning And Sweeping

Douglas Corporation's Cleansing Department is responsible for street cleaning and sweeping within the Borough of Douglas. If you have any problems contact 675286.

All other areas of the Island are the responsibility of the Department of Transport's Highways Operations Section. If you have any problems contact 686665.

Hedge Cutting

Boundary hedges are the responsibility of the landowner. However the Department does carry out hedge cutting for reasons of safety. For enquiries contact 686665.

Public Rights Of Way - (footpaths)

The Department of Transport is responsible for maintaining a right of passage along Public Rights Of Way. This includes maintaining stiles, gates and signing. If you have any problems contact the Rights of Way Officer contact 686665.
