Permanent Road Traffic Orders
Road Traffic Orders are made under the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1985
Road Traffic Orders are made to legalise parking in disc zones, reserved and disabled parking areas and also to implement 'no waiting' restrictions, speed limits, weight restrictions on certain roads and other miscellaneous traffic restrictions.
Before implementation a Road Traffic Order must be advertised in the local press and the public have 14 days in which they may make representation to the Department or register any objection.
If objections are received they will be considered before a decision is taken on whether the Traffic Order should be made, amended or proceeded with.
When a Road Traffic Order has been made, it is normally monitored for 6 months to ascertain if there are any unforeseen difficulties.
