Below are the FAQs list with a full explanation.
| How do can I contact my dentist to make or cancel a dental appointment? |
|---|
| Telephone your dentist (click here for a list of dental NHS providers on the Isle of Man) to make or cancel your appointment. For patients who require the services of the Salaried Primary Care Dental Service click here. It would be appreciated if patients could delay phoning the clinic until after 10:30hrs if it is not an emergency as the clinics are busy dealing with emergencies first thing in the morning. Patients who wish to cancel their appointment should give at least 24 hours notice if possible to enable the appointment to be given to another patient. Patients are requested to attend on time for their appointment, as delays could mean that only partial treatment or no treatment would be carried out through lack of clinical time. Patients are reminded about failed appointments, which mean longer waiting times for appointments and could result in deregistration. |

Your appointment letter should tell you if you need to do anything before the appointment (e.g. instructions regarding eating or drinking). It is a good idea to write down any questions you may want to ask during your appointment before you come to the hospital. | How long does it take to donate blood? |
|---|
From walking in the door to walking out, is usually 30-45 mins. The actual time it takes to collect your blood, when the needle is inserted into your arm is usually 5-7mins, with a maximum of 12 mins. We have to stop the donation after 12 mins and if this happens, it is usually due to a technical error in collecting your blood. It does not mean your blood would not have been used, if we had been able to collect it. |

|---|
We have to ensure that the correct amount of anticoagulant (this stops your blood cells from sticking together) in the bag is mixed with the correct amount of red cells. We need 450mls +/- 10%. This ensures that the product produced is going to benefit the patient receiving the blood donation. |
