LIBRARY SERVICES

Registration

Department of Health and Department of Social Care staff wishing to join the library are asked to complete a registration card and will be given a library membership card which they should bring with them when they use the library. Keyll Darree Library Registration Card Form

Library Catalogue

The library has a computerised catalogue system, Heritage, with all books arranged by a classification scheme called the National Library of Medicine.

If you are on a government network machine you can access the library catalogue by going to: All Programs -> Corporate Applications -> Heritage Library Enquiry

Heritage library catalogue - can search for books, audio-visual material or journals by author, title, keyword, subject etc. The catalogue also includes books held in other departments, Ramsey and District Cottage Hospital, Hospice Isle of Man, LODD and the MacMillan Cancer Information Centre.

Library Stock

A comprehensive bookstock, including reports, which cover a wide range of subjects - nursing, medicine, allied health, mental health, midwifery, management, psychology, sociology and other related areas.

There is a well stocked Reference Section arranged in various categories - eg dictionaries, standard textbooks, directories, drugs and pharmacology, education and training, etc.

Just under 200 journals taken by the library across all disciplines, there is a holding list available detailing which titles and for how long

Our audio-visual section consists of Videos, CD-ROMS and DVDs.

Loans

Members can borrow 6 items for a loan period of 4 weeks. Non current journals can be loaned for one week. Overdue letters will be sent out for late return of materials via e-mail wherever possible.

Reservations

Members can reserve items that are out on loan.

Photocopying

Photocopying is available in the library. The present charge is 5p per sheet. When photocopying please be aware of copyright law. If you are unsure ask a member of staff.

Inter-Library Loans

Books and journals not held in the library collection can be obtained from other sources, for example The British Library, British Medical Association (BMA) and libraries in the North West. There is no charge for this service if you are employed by the Department of Health, the Department of Social Care or are a student enrolled on a course at Keyll Darree unless we have to apply to the British Library. In this case, the charges are £6.25 for journal article requests and £11.50 for loan of books. Please ask staff for details. Inter-library loan forms are available in the library or via the links below. Please complete, print off and return to the library.

Internet Access/Electronic Resources

The library provides access via the Internet to databases and other quality electronic resources. Some resources are password protected and you will need to register for an Athens password (click here to download the form). Contact the library staff for details. Word processing, scanning and printing facilities are available.

All users of the computers in the library are reminded that they must comply with Government and Hospital policies on appropriate use. Failure to do so may result in disciplinary action and/or being banned from further use of the facility.

Wi-Fi is also available within most of the Keyll Darree building. Contact a member of staff for access details.

Information Retrieval Skills

We provide Information Retrieval Skills, training sessions and guides for users conducting their own searches. These are available in paper copy in the library and are also available to download from our website. We also provide the opportunity for users to conduct an assisted search with a member of staff or the library staff can do the search on your behalf. Please contact a member of staff for details.

New Books List - click here to view list

The library produces a monthly new books list of titles added to stock, these can be found in and around the library.

Current Awareness Service

IN THE KNOW current awareness bulletin produced weekly, this bulletin covers local and national health and social care news, including current news items, evidence-based practice, reports, guidelines and documents. To subscribe to this service and receive weekly emails contact a member of staff.

Binding Service

For registered members, we provide a binding service for your assignment or essentail documents, Up to 130 pages at a standard charge of £2.50.

Courier Service

Ramsey and District Cottage Hospital now has a small library in the IT Training Suite, containing a number of key texts. you must be a member of Keyll Darree Library to borrow books from their library. You can return books via Ramsey and District Cottage Hospital courier service, items can also be sent to Ramsey and District Cottage Hospital this way, please contact a member of staff for details.

Book Purchase Scheme

Personal copies can be obtained via a local bookseller. Please ask library staff for details.
