WHAT IF I DO NOT WANT A MANX EMERGENCY CARE RECORD (MECR)?

Substantial work has taken place to modernise a number of key health and social care systems which will enable relevant information to be made available in an emergency to health care staff involved in your treatment as and when required and within a secure environment.

However, you can choose not to have a MECR if you want to but in doing so you will need to understand that, although health and social care professionals will endeavour to provide you with the best care possible, key information may not be available during your emergency treatment which may be crucial to deciding the care that your are to be provided.

For example, if you are taken to Noble’s Hospital’s Accident and Emergency Department (A&E), then the staff in A&E responsible for your care may not be aware of your current medication as prescribed by your GP or about any bad reaction to medicines that have been noted about you, and as a result the course of emergency treatment decided upon may have adverse consequences.

To opt out you will need to complete the ‘MECR Opt Out’ form which can be found below.
