The Department may, under the 2001 Education Act, make school meals available to those pupils wishing to use this facility. In secondary schools food is available before school and at break times as well as lunch time. In primary schools food is only available at lunchtime and this will consist of a traditional two course meal.

Meals are prepared to current nutritional best practice standards and catering staff work closely with teaching staff to ensure pupils are encouraged to make healthy choices

The School Meals Organiser and the School Meals Supervisor are based at St George's Court and oversee the supply of midday meals to pupils in primary schools and monitor meals provision in secondary schools and at the Isle of Man College.
