The Department of Education and Children has a team of advisers, led by the Director of Education. These advisers are able to both support and quality assure primary and secondary education. They manage a small team of advisory teachers whose role is to support school improvement.
The advisers have a monitoring and evaluation role, gaining an overview of the performance of schools and ensuring that the policies of the Department are implemented. In addition, they contribute to the formation of these policies and are involved in a range of initiatives and projects.
Experienced headteachers and teachers are occasionally seconded to work on specific projects to support and develop the work of the schools.
