In addition to the Director of Education and the Deputy Director there are a number of other other professional staff based at the Department's Head Office who have responsibility for specific areas of education.

The Department has a team of advisers, led by the Senior Adviser. There are co-ordinating advisers for each of the Primary and Secondary phases and for Information and Communication Technology. Each co-ordinating adviser leads a small team of professionals whose role is to support school improvements.

These advisers have a monitoring and evaluation role, gaining an overview of the performance of the Island's schools and ensuring that the policies of the Department are implemented. In addition, they contribute to the formation of the Department's policies and are involved in a range of initiatives and projects.

Experienced Headteachers and teachers are occasionally seconded to work on specific projects to support and develop the work of the schools.
