The Corporate Services Division is responsible for providing the Department's human resources, administrative, legal and health and safety services, transport and media relations.

The key functions include:

• Providing an employee relations advisory service for managers and staff in respect of employment legislation, human resources policies and procedures, conditions of service, discipline, grievances, capability, attendance, welfare and disputes.
• Providing direct assistance for managers in handling their personnel responsibilities and in complying with employment legislation.
• In consultation with stakeholders, developing human resources strategies, policies and procedures.
• Identifying and meeting training needs in relation to employment legislation, human resources policies and procedures and best practice.
• Handling appointments once the successful candidate for a post has been selected, including pre employment checks, salary assessments, work permit applications, offer letters, confirmation of appointments and contracts of employment.
• Processing medical referrals, maternity leave requests, extension of service requests, early retirement requests, salary review requests, special leave requests, resignations and retirements.

• Promoting communications between employees and management through joint consulting and joint negotiating committees.
• Assisting the Department in all of its administrative and legislative functions.
• Business continuity planning.
• Handling complaints.
• Providing support, advice and guidance to the Education Council and School Governing Bodies.
• Data protection control and information security.
• Events organisation.
• Media liaison.
• Providing transport for children with special needs.
• Processing insurance claims.
• Issuing licences for children appearing in entertainments.
• Pupil attendance.
• Advice and direct assistance to managers in handling their health and safety responsibilities.
• Providing a wide range of health and safety training.
• Undertaking health and safety audits, reviews and accident investigations.
• Operating the Centre for Professional Development.
• Handling counter enquiries.
• Arranging exclusion hearings and appeals in respect of admissions, suspensions and TLRs.
• Providing secretarial and postal services.
