Mrs Anne Craine MHK - who is an MHK for Ramsey - is the Minister of Education. She is the political head of the Department and is supported by three members of Tynwald, MLC Mr Eddie Lowey, Douglas North MHK Mr Bill Henderson and Malew and Santon MHK Mr Graham Cregeen.

The Minister determines the policies of the Education Service as a whole and can delegate any of the functions of the Department to a member or any other person, in accordance with the Government Departments Act 1987.

The Director of Education is accountable to the Minister for the management and organisation of the Education Service. The Director leads a team of officers who, together with school Head teachers and the Principal of the Isle of Man College, advise on policy formulation, implement the policies adopted and provide leadership and management to the delivery of the Education Service.
