Board Of Education

The Board of Education consists of 15 non-Tynwald members, elected every five years, one member being elected to represent each of the 15 House of Keys constituencies.

The purpose of the Board is to advise and submit recommendations to the Department of Education on matters of educational policy and the needs of the statutory system of public education on the Island.Rushen School

Meetings of the Board are usually held once per term and in addition to the Board itself, members serve automatically on the Governing Bodies for their local primary and secondary schools.

In their capacity as School Governors, or as Governors of the Isle of Man College, Board members are directly involved in the appointment of new teaching staff for schools and the Isle of Man College.

The work undertaken by Board members is both interesting and varied and given its role as an advisory body on all aspects of education, people from all walks of life are encouraged to join. Further details regarding Board membership can be found by clicking here
