Strategies

The Isle of Man has a vision to become one of the world’s most advanced e societies. It has identified the structures and incentives needed to help electronic commerce flourish. With these plans well advanced it can now demonstrate to the world and its local business community a total commitment to realising the full potential of this new and emerging economic opportunity.

In December 1999, the Isle of Man Government, through the Information Systems Strategy Committee (ISSC), a Sub-Committee of the Treasury, awarded a contract to Charteris Limited to "undertake a study to establish the most appropriate means of developing and implementing an effective environment within which electronic commerce can flourish in the Isle of Man".

Tim Craine, E-Business Director

The study also examined the Isle of Man's position in relation to other competitive e business jurisdictions and identified the structures and incentives that would need to be put in place to allow the Island to capitalise on this new and emerging economic opportunity. The Charteris report culminated in the Council of Ministers Strategy Document for Tynwald which was approved unanimously at the July 2000 sitting of Tynwald, and helped to demonstrate to both the outside world and the business community on the Island that the Isle of Man Government was serious about realising the full potential of the opportunities that e business brings with it. The strategy document is a vailable for download in a pdf format from the document library by clicking on the link below.

Following on from Tynwald's approval of the Council of Ministers e business Strategy at the July 2000 sitting, much work has been done to develop more detailed e business and e society strategies which resulted in a further report being submitted to the June 2001 sitting of Tynwald. This strategies report was also approved unanimously. By providing further clarity of Government's intent to deliver and maintain the advantages that are necessary to develop and to drive e-enablement forward, the Isle of Man aims to become one of the most advanced e Societies globally.
