CORE VALUES

The Department aspires to deliver the highest standards of performance in all its operational activities and in its dealings with clients. It is committed to operating in accordance with the principles of continuous improvement contained within the "Way Ahead" initiative. The following core values are intended to shape and influence the way in which the Department conducts its business:

Clients

In serving all clients, the Department endeavours to understand and be sensitive to their needs; to value them and learn from their opinions and experience; to be readily accessible to them; to be receptive to their ideas and criticisms; and to maintain their confidentiality.

The Department seeks to communicate clearly to clients its aims, objectives, programmes and services so that they are understood. Coupled with this, the Department invites feedback from clients on the level and quality of programmes and services provided.

Quality and Relevance of Service

The Department aims for the highest standards of relevance, quality and effectiveness to be incorporated in all programmes and services; that there is a high level of professionalism and competence in their delivery; and that best value for money is secured.

The need to demonstrate the quality of programmes and services is recognised and it is understood that the measurement and evaluation of performance are key to this. The Department seeks to continually improve the quality of its provision both through direct delivery or the utilisation of external providers.

A complaints procedure is in place for use by clients, details of which can be obtained from any office of the Department or the Department's Web-site http://www.gov.im/dti The Department will respond positively to complaints and seeks to resolve them to the mutual satisfaction of all parties.

In all dealings with clients the Department aims to act with integrity, openness and impartiality. The requirement to maintain standards of probity and safety is observed; advice appropriate to the situation will be given without fear or favour; and action will be taken in a straightforward and fair manner to encourage confidence and trust.

Every effort is made to engender a strong sense of public duty within the staff of the Department.

Management

The Department endeavours to further develop a participative style of management within which staff are valued, encouraged to contribute to the full extent of their abilities, recognised for their achievements and supported in undertaking personal and career development activities.

Within an environment where all accept responsibility for their actions delegation of authority is maximised. Ideas, innovation and team working are encouraged, and leadership and direction is clear and consistent.

The processes necessary to support effective service delivery are continually reviewed. This ensures that they reflect current good practice and incorporate technological and other innovations as they arise.
