Manx Welcome

Introduction

The Manx Welcome Failt Mannanagh scheme is aimed at the training of employees within the Retail and Hospitality sectors on the Isle of Man. The scheme is supported by the Department of Trade and Industry the Department of Tourism and Leisure and the Department of Education whilst industry is represented by the Retail and Hospitality Sector Skills Group.

The Manx Welcome Programme aims to support new and existing employees to acquire skills and knowledge to work in the retail and hospitality industry in the Isle of Man. This will provide a structured training initiative to new and existing staff, especially those from overseas enabling them to integrate as quickly and professionally as possible. The programme will also give the opportunity to all employees within the industry to obtain a nationally recognised and certified training experience.

The Manx Welcome Programme consists of modules in Customer Care, Food Hygiene and Health & Safety. Courses are attended individually, but Customer Care is compulsory and must be undertaken prior to the other modules.

We would urge all within the industry to support the scheme which is vital to the Isle of Man's continued success and future growth as a visitor destination.

Benefits

Why should I join the Manx Welcome Scheme?

How do I get involved?

Q How do Employees register to join the scheme?
AThe Department of Trade & Industry provide the initial administrative support and are the first point of contact. You can register an enquiry by e-mail: manxwelcome@gov.im by telephone 687156 or fax 687150. You will be sent an employers guide and the relevant application forms. Alternatively you can download all of the available paperwork at the bottom of this page. Simply fill in and return the application forms and we will contact you to discuss suitable dates. Courses will be scheduled to meet demand, and where possible to fit in with your busy schedules.
Q Is there any cost involved?
AThere is no financial cost apart from the employee being paid normally to attend. The scheme is financially supported by the Department of Trade and Industry and Department of Tourism & Leisure.
Q What's in it for me?
AThe Scheme is intended to provide a base level standard of hospitality training. It is not intended to replace normal in-house training, or as a substitute for formal training arranged by major employers. They will continue with their own schemes but will incorporate the Manx Welcome content into their own schemes.
Q What's in it for the employee?
AIt is hoped to raise the level of hospitality service standards. The employee will gain nationally recognised qualifications and will gain knowledge of the Island and its attractions as well as meeting new colleagues within the industry.
Q What happens after the training?
AAll delegates will receive a course folder containing generic information on the Isle of Man and the basic course details. In this they will build their training portfolio, using the paperwork they receive during the course modules as well as any other relevant material. All successful delegates will receive formal accredited certification via the relevant certification body. The folders will also contain training records where the employees can record all other types of training they receive during their employment. These are endorsed by their current employer and build up to make a useful portfolio for future employment within the sector.

Evaluation / Feedback

To continue to ensure the success of the Manx Welcome programme, there will be a formal process established for evaluating the impact of the training and to allow both delegates and employers to provide feedback. The methods of training and assessment will continually evolve to suit the needs of an ever changing industry; therefore, it is vital that there are effective procedures in place.
